Many People Who Voted for the Trudeau Liberals Have Buyer's Remorse: Poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It seems a large number of voters who cast their ballot for the Trudeau Liberals in the 2015 federal election are regretting their choice.

More than a thousand people took part in an online poll exclusive to Maclean’s last week.

Mario Canseco with Insights West says 24 per cent of people who say they voted Liberal in the last election now regret it. “You have essentially one out of four voters for the Liberal party having buyer’s remorse. Most of them are in Quebec.”

The poll did not ask the reasons for the remorse.

Canseco says one detail that may scare the Liberals is that many of those who are repenting are in the vote-rich middle-age bracket. “It’s essentially Generation X that is saying, ‘Did we make the right choice here? Or is this something that we need to correct in the next election?'”

These results come at a time when the government is facing criticisms for small business tax reforms and many ethical questions about the personal finances of cabinet ministers.

The Liberals are still generally in the lead with 35 per cent support, but the Conservatives are nipping at their heels with 33 per cent. The NDP has seen a bump up to 20 per cent after the election of their new leader, Jagmeet Singh.
