Texas Tech Campus Police Officer Shot and Killed, Student Suspect in Custody

A Texas Tech University student is in custody after police say he shot and killed a campus police officer Monday night.

University Spokesperson Chris Cook says a campus police officer was making a welfare check on a student, Hollis Daniels, and found drugs and drug paraphernalia.

When the officer took Daniels to the police station, the student pulled out a gun and fatally shot the officer in the head, Cook confirmed.

Daniels ran away, forcing the campus to go on lockdown. Police located Daniels around 9:30 p.m. near the AT&T Jones stadium.

Texas Tech lifted the lockdown but is asking students to avoid the campus police department and the north side of campus.

The officer's name has not been released.
