Police Raid Cannabis Culture Shops Across Canada

Marijuana dispensaries operated by Jodie and Marc Emery have been raided by police in multiple Canadian cities after the pair was arrested near Toronto Wednesday night.

The Emerys, sometime called Canada’s Prince and Princess of Pot, were arrested at the Toronto airport Wednesday night, according to their lawyer Kirk Tousaw. They were being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The Emerys were apparently headed to Spain to attend the cannabis expo Spannabis, according to Global TV news, which reported they were to appear in court on Thursday morning.

Just after 11 a.m. Thursday, police began raiding Cannabis Culture stores, which are operated by the Emerys.

n a news release, Toronto police said search warrants were executed in Toronto, the Hamilton area and Vancouver, as part of Project Gator, a “Toronto Police Service project targeting marijuana dispensaries.”

It was not immediately clear why the couple was arrested, or why police were raiding the dispensaries.
