MTV is Reviving 'Fear Factor' and Ludacris Will Host
Now that Joe Rogan is some sort of podcasting bro guru, he's likely to busy too host Fear Factor. Still, MTV has plans to reboot the popular noughties series anyway, and they've found a perfect leader in rapper Ludacris.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Luda is set to executive produce and host the revival, which is set to launch on the network on May 30.
In a statement, Luda even used his titular L-word to hype the show. "I am excited to kick off my partnership with MTV, starting with the relaunch of Fear Factor, which will be even more insane and ludicrous than what you remember," he said. "This will be the first of many great projects together."
Apparently the new version of Fear Factor will focus less on gross-out gags and more on different challenges. Or, as THR puts it, "The newly designed stunts are geared at tapping into visceral fears of today's anxious youth — such as couch surfing at 300 feet and waterlogging personal cellphones."
MTV president Chris McCarthy added that the new show is meant to be uplifting. "MTV's intention with the show is to empower people to overcome their fears," he said. "We're not looking to be mean-spirited."
