Marine Le Pen Has Lead Over Emmanuel Macron With Just Weeks to Go in French Election
The Front National leader will win the first round of the French presidential election with 26 per cent of the vote, according to an Opinionway-Orpi poll.
Former economy minister Emmanuel Macron is snapping at the FN chief’s heels and is expected to garner 24 per cent of the vote.
The two frontrunners have both consolidated their lead over François Fillon, who is expected to garner 20 per cent of the vote in the election’s first round, which is to be held on April 23.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon would garner 15 per cent of the vote, whilst his closest rival, Socialist candidate Benoît Hamon, would garner 10 per cent of the vote.
The poll, however, showed that Mr Macron would beat Mrs Le Pen in the May 7 second-round run-off by 61 per cent to 39 per cent.
Another poll by Ifop-Fiducial for Paris Match, CNews and Sud Radio also published on Tuesday showed Ms Le Pen and Mr Macron locked in a first-round tie after winning 25 per cent of the vote each.
