Suspect Arrested with Guns and Cans of Gas After Killing Spree in Shawinigan
SHAWINIGAN, Que. — A 51-year-old man has been arrested after three women were shot to death in their homes in Shawinigan on Wednesday.
The Sureté du Quebec said the killing spree began late Wednesday afternoon. The man is suspected of driving to a residence in the city located 120 kilometres northeast of Montreal, and killing two women.
He then left the scene and drove to another home in St-Mathieu-du-Parc, just west of Shawinigan, where he killed a woman and injured a man, police said. Radio-Canada reported the woman was tied up before being shot, in front of her husband, and that the man was sprayed with gasoline, but managed to escape and run to a neighbour’s house for help. The SQ could not confirm those details Thursday morning.
The male victim was transported to hospital and is in stable condition, SQ spokesman Christine Coulombe said.
The suspect was arrested soon afterward at a gas station in the northern sector of Shawinigan. Witnesses at the scene reported the man had gasoline canisters beside his car when he was arrested.
