Podcast Host Taxstone Indicted for Murder in 2016 Irving Plaza Shooting
PITCHFORK -- In January, podcast host and hip-hop personality Taxstone—whose real name is Daryl Campbell—was arrested in connection with a shooting at a T.I. concert at Irving Plaza last year. Today, Campbell was indicted for the murder of Troy Ave’s bodyguard Ronald McPhatter, DNA Info reports. Campbell, who was charged with second degree murder, pleaded not guilty at a hearing this afternoon. “We intend to fight these charges and he maintains his innocence,” Campbell’s lawyer told Billboard in a statement.
Rapper Troy Ave, who was shot in the leg at Irving Plaza, was indicted last summer on one count of attempted second degree murder and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon in relation to the incident. Taxstone and Troy Ave had been engaged in a public feud in the months prior to the shooting. Troy Ave sued Irving Plaza and Live Nation for “the lack of security they provided the night of the incident.” In September, two concert attendees also sued Live Nation after being “trampled” the night of the shooting.
