British Military Member Injured in Drive-by Shooting Near Ottawa

An off-duty British military member, in Ottawa for a shooting competition, was among two men injured during a drive-by shooting in Kanata early Thursday morning.

Ottawa Police said officers responded to multiple calls of a shooting on Roland Michener Drive. According to police, a 28-year-old was injured in a drive-by shooting and was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police noted a 22-year-old man was also injured as a result of the shooting and suffered minor injuries.

British Armed Forces confirmed to Global News one of its members was injured in Thursday’s shooting.

“We can confirm that an off-duty soldier was injured during an incident in Ottawa in the early hours of this morning (local time). The solider has received hospital treatment and is in a stable condition,” an army spokesperson said in a statement. “The Canadian Police are investigating and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”

The spokesperson said the military member was in Ottawa participating in a military exercise and was off-duty at the time of the incident.

Ottawa’s guns and gangs unit said it’s investigating the shooting and no arrests have been made.
