Man, 54, Killed in Double Shooting in Regent Park

A 54-year old man is dead and another is in hospital after a double shooting in Regent Park early Saturday morning.

Police were called to an area near Gerrard and River streets just before 1:30 a.m. The suspect fled on foot eastbound on Gerrard.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene while another victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to recover.

Detective Jeff Tavares says they don’t believe this was not a random act.

“From what we are able to gather so far, the offender is walking towards the group with some sort of purpose,” said Tavares. “That would make me believe it wasn’t a random act.”

Police say the deceased did not live in the complex but was visiting at the time of the shooting and was not known to police.

Investigators believe there may have been a number of witnesses in the area at the time of the incident as the area is known to be frequented by area residents and visitors.

The name of the victim has not been released nor any suspect information at this time.
