Woman Shot by Hamilton Police Dies of Her Injuries

An altercation between Hamilton Police and a woman in an apartment has left the woman dead and the SIU investigating the circumstances.

The incident occurred at around 1a.m. Saturday in the area of King and Wellington streets.

SIU spokesperson Carm Piro confirmed that Police officers and the woman were involved in an interaction.

" Police received a 9-1-1 call about a person that was armed with a knife in a residence. Police officers responded and ended up with an interaction with the woman in the apartment."

The interaction resulted in a gun discharge that wounded the woman.

" One of the officers fired a firearm, discharged their firearm. The woman was taken to hospital but has since died."

Piro adds there will be an autopsy on the woman's body will be conducted Sunday morning. 

The SIU continues to investigate the circumstances and will interview witnesses.
