Man Tries to Stab Woman on TTC Train
Police have taken a man into custody after he allegedly tried to stab a woman on a TTC train Sunday afternoon.
It happened near Summerhill station on Line 1 just before 12:45 p.m.
The woman was not harmed and no one else was injured.
However, according to Tweets from Toronto Police, the man left the train as transit officers pursued him on foot.
While he was arrested inside the station, it took some time before officers were able to restrain him.
"He was in police custody for quite a while," CP24 reporter Christie Bezaire told NEWSTALK1010 from the scene. "We arrived at the scene at around 1:10-1:15 or so, and police had that cruiser surrounded with officers on the street for quite some time."
"Then we could hear the sounds of struggle, so police were clearly concerned about how to best transport this individual."
Bezaire says the suspect was kicking at the doors of the car and acting an aggressive manner, while police were trying to de-escalate the situation. A supervisor had to be called in for extra help, after which they were successfully able to take him into custody.
It's not clear if police have recovered the suspect's knife and there's no word on charges.
There were minor interruptions on the TTC at the time, but regular service resumed within 20 minutes of the incident.
